FAQs Concerning Self-paid COVID-19 Vaccine
Update time April 23, 2021
Q1: The Central Epidemic Command Center (CECC) would offer the self-paid COVID-19 vaccine to members of the public starting April 21. Who is eligible?
A1:
1. In accordance with the Advisory Committee on Immunization Practices (ACIP), self-paid COVID-19 vaccinations are available for people who need to travel abroad for business, work, education, and medical treatment, and other humanitarian reasons or considerations, regardless of their nationality.
2. To facilitate registration on the vaccine information system, VACC, foreign nationals with an Alien Resident Certificate (ARC) must bring their ARC and passport when receiving the self-paid COVID-19 vaccine.
Q2: Presently are those who go abroad for tourism eligible for self-paid COVID-19 vaccinations?
A2:
1. In consideration of the severity of COVID-19 worldwide and given that most countries are listed at Level 3 travel notice, people should avoid non-essential international travel. Therefore, those who go abroad for tourism purpose are not eligible for the self-paid COVID-19 vaccine.
2. The CECC will adjust the eligible persons of the self-paid COVID-19 vaccine on a rolling basis depending on the status of the pandemic and vaccine availability in Taiwan.
Q3: How much will I have to pay for the self-paid COVID-19 vaccine?
A3:
1. Those who wish to receive self-paid COVID-19 vaccine
doses must pay for the registration, diagnostic, and injection fees charged by the hospital for their vaccination; however, the cost of the vaccine itself will be waived.
2. The CECC coordinates with each level of hospitals and determines the maximum amount of the fee for the self- paid COVID-19 vaccine as follows:
A. Medical Centers :NT$600 dollars;
B. Regional Hospitals: NT$550 dollars, and
C. District Hospitals: NT$500 dollars.
Please consult each hospital for the actual price.
Q4: How do I make an appointment for a self-paid COVID-19 vaccination?
A4:
1. Starting from April 21, 2021, there are a total of 31 hospitals with outpatient services in travel medicine that are designated for COVID-19 vaccination.
2. Detailed information for self-paid COVID-19 vaccinations, such as consultation time slots, way of making an appointment and vaccination charges, will be announced by each hospital on their official website (or on the Taiwan CDC website: https://reurl.cc/raGm3x ); people who require self-paid vaccinations to go abroad are allowed to make vaccination appointments.
Q5: In terms of the self-paid COVID-19 vaccine, can I receive two doses at different hospitals?
A5: Members of public can make an appointment at different
hospitals with outpatient services in travel medicine based on their needs, and they can receive two doses of the self-paid COVID-19 vaccine at different places.
Q6: Can I choose the brand of vaccine I wish to receive?
A6: The vaccine doses are distributed by the CECC to designated hospitals, and members of the public can't choose which brand of vaccine they wish to receive.
Q7: Do people receiving the self-paid COVID-19 vaccine and those receiving the government-funded COVID-19 vaccine all get vaccinated together in hospitals?
A7: The current COVID-19 vaccine is in multi-dose vials (10 doses). It must be used within 6 hours after opening. To ensure efficient use of vaccine doses, hospitals may collectively open vials of vaccine and administer doses to both the self-paid vaccine recipients and government-funded vaccine recipients by coordinating interdepartmental efforts to arrange the route and appointments for the two groups of recipients at vaccination sites.
Q8: If I have received two doses of the self-paid COVID-19
vaccine, can I be exempted from home quarantine or eligible for shortened home quarantine periods?
A8:
1. Given that COVID-19 vaccination doesn't provide 100%
protection, in order to prevent the occurrence of COVID-19 and protect vulnerable populations, people who are fully vaccinated are still advised to abide by the principles of new lifestyle for epidemic prevention, including washing hands, wearing a mask, and maintaining social distancing.
2. In consideration of the severity of COVID-19 worldwide, as the vaccination coverage rate is not high in Taiwan, travelers who enter Taiwan are still required to comply with home quarantine requirements as well as self-health management regulations announced by the CECC.
Q9: If I want to visit the hospital with outpatient services in travel medicine for a self-paid COVID-19 vaccination, do I have to provide verifying documents to prove that I am an eligible person? Is it necessary to sign an affidavit?
A9: When members of the public go to the hospital with outpatient services in travel medicine, they need to fill in the "Purpose of going abroad" on the “Form of Intent for Self-paid COVID-19 Vaccination” to facilitate recording of medical records. In addition, doctors will not only assess the health status of vaccine recipients and their history of vaccination, but also inquire about the purpose of going abroad (such as work and study). Thus, members of the public are not required to provide verifying documents or sign the affidavit.
